Lee County nursing coordinator discusses quarantine numbers
(LEESBURG, GA) – The Lee County School System has seen their fair share of students taking precautions when it comes to possible COVID-19 spread.
Nursing Coordinator, Shannon Weeks says that as of Friday afternoon, more than 150 students have been quarantined.
“It’s time consuming, because we are going by a set of guidelines and assessing the students based on symptoms that was set forth in those guidelines. And we’re tracking every student who appears with symptoms,” says Weeks
Weeks says that her school, she’s only needing to test five students at most in a day.
However, for the two high school campuses, the Lee County nurses are needing to take extra precautions as that’s where most of the quarantines are registered.
But a fair amount of them aren’t directly school-related.
Weeks explains, “Some of these quarantines haven’t come from us, this whole number is not students we’ve quarantined. Some of them are students who were exposed at home, at daycare, or by their families. It’s not necessarily a school case.
For now, the Lee County school nurses are performing temperature checks and contact tracing for all students on a daily basis.
To better protect both students, and their families, Weeks says there’s one thing families should take notice of.
Weeks tells us, “I would just encourage to help us by procedures and protcols. They’re all listed on our school nursing page and our school’s website.”
