(SYLVESTER, GA) – A Worth County tradition has been called off due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Georgia Peanut Festival committee announced over the weekend that the 2020 festival has been canceled.

All events surrounding the festival in Mid-October including the parade and golf tournament have also been canceled as well.

Worth County Chamber of Commerce Director, Karen Rackley says the decision came Friday afternoon after the state’s executive orders were renewed.

“We decided at our last meeting if he (Governor Brian Kemp) didn’t end it on the 21st, which was our last meeting, we had to cancel because that doesn’t leave you with really much time to prepare for a festival of that magnitude,” says Rackley.

The Georgia Peanut Festival was previously canceled in 2018, due to Hurricane Michael.
