DPH hosting drug take back this Saturday
(ALBANY, GA) – The Georgia Department of Public Health will be hosting a drug take back this weekend.
On Saturday morning, anyone can come to the Dougherty County Department of Public Health to drop off any expired or unneeded medications for safe disposal.
Those dropping off medications won’t have to get out of their cars, as drop-off will be handled by the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit.
In addition to disposal, the Department of Public Health will also be distributing Narcan to rescue someone from an opioid overdose.
“We’re trying to get the unused, unneeded prescriptions out of the home, to prevent any misuse or any overdoses. And having that narcan on hand is very critical in the time of an overdose because it can provide vital minutes to getting help to that person who’s overdosed,” says DPH Public Health Analyst, Phyllis Rolle.
Drug Take Back Day will be held 9am to noon at the Dougherty County Health Department, 1710 S. Slappey Blvd. in Albany, on Saturday, August 22nd.
