Southwest GA continues fight against COVID-19

DOUGHERTY COUNTY, Ga. – Georgia in the top five for the number of new coronavirus cases. The state added over 3,500 cases yesterday for a total, COVID-19 case count of 226,153. The Southwest Georgia department of public health oversees 14 counties including Dougherty, Colquitt and Lee and there were 139 new cases within the district alone.
The DPH website is showing that most of the counties within the Southwest Georgia Health District are experiencing a plateau however, Lee County doubled their average daily cases of seven within the last 24 hours. A strong reminder that transmission of the disease is still prevalent.
“We are still in a COVID-19 pandemic, people are still getting sick, people are still getting hospitalized with COVID-19, people are still dying with COVID-19. The worst of this pandemic might very well be in our future. SO let’s all work together to control the spread of this virus by doing the things we have heard many times,” says Southwest Health District Health Director Charles Ruis.
