Colquitt County reports lower than average census count

(MOULTRIE, GA) – As the countdown to the census deadline continues, one county has been falling behind the rest of the state.

The Colquitt County Census Board has found that less than 50% of residents have completed their census forms.

Colquitt Compliance Department Head, Justin Cox says that they need people to fill out the forms either online, or in person, as it could potentially cost the county $500 million over the next ten years in planning and infrastructure.

Cox tells us that while they can’t incentivize completing census forms, they are pushing for colquitt businesses to set aside time for their employees.

He says, “We’re asking our employers to allow a ten minute break for employees to fill out their census forms online, and if possible, use computers at the places of employment to do it.”

Cox says census workers have started going door-to-door this week, and are making sure to wear PPE when conducting census counts
