6 EV charging stations open for use in downtown Tifton
Downtown Tifton 'charged up'
TIFTON, Ga. – Today is the day… the brand new electric vehicle charging stations are open for use in downtown Tifton… as you can see behind me, people couldn’t wait to test them out.
“It’s the future and we’re here to meet it. We’re just thankful that we have this opportunity to partner with Georgia Power and EnviroSpark to put these charging stations in downtown Tifton,” said Mayor Julie Smith, City of Tifton.
Smith says these charging stations located on Commerce Way are beneficial to the environment, downtown businesses and will provide I-75 travelers a satisfactory pit-stop.
“While their vehicle is charging, they can go grab lunch, they can do a little shopping, visit one of the museums, one of the parks, so we’re really excited about offering this to anyone who comes into downtown,” said Mayor Smith.
In 2021 Governor Brian Kemp said his goal is to make Georgia the “electric mobility capital of America”. Smith says she’s proud to support these efforts.
Andrew Bailey, EnviroSparks Chief Strategy Officer explained off camera these universal chargers only cost two dollars an hour… cutting price to fill up gas cars in half.
He added that The average EV takes 8 hours to charge. EnviroSpark stations reduce that time to approximately 1 to 5 hours depending on vehicle model and remaining battery life.
The Mayor says the city is already working on more energy efficient projects with the two companies.
“I know several of the private business for example some of our hotels have stations at the hotel, so any way that we can partner with other businesses who want to experience this, let us know and we can get you connected to the right people,” said Mayor Smith.
