UPDATE: Missing child found in Ben Hill County.
FITZGERALD, Ga. — The story of a missing Clayton County child ended on a happy note as he was found safe in Ben Hilll County.
Denise Hayes-Brown reported her son, 5-year old David Anthony Hayes, missing this morning after school officials in Clayton County informed her the child was not in school. The mother is currently in New Orleans on a business trip. Brown reported to authorities that her son was with his stepfather, 60-year old Shearon Brown, but that herself and other family members on both sides had made attempts to reach him via cell phone. They were unable to make contact.
Law enforcement in Forest Park reached out to authorities in Wilcox and Ben Hill Counties where it was said the stepfather had connections.
Captain James Delk of the Forest Park Police Department said it was a domestic issue and no threats were made to the child. Law enforcement in Ben Hill County located Brown and the child. Young David was released to a family friend to be taken back to Forest Park, but no charges were filed against Brown.
David’s mother said she is happy to know her son is safe and that she is grateful to the law enforcement agencies and their quick response in locating her son.
