Staying local: Lee County’s Brinkley, Holley remaining in the 229
Brinkley signs with SGSC, Holley signs with ASU
LEESBURG, GA – Two trojans put pen to paper Thursday afternoon as Gavin Brinkley (South Georgia State College) and Greyson Holley (Albany State University) signed their letters of intent.
Holley will play for a Golden Rams team that just came off one of their best records in recent years under head coach Scot Hemmings – finishing 35-10.
The senior pitcher hopes to add to ASU’s success as he ended his 2023 campaign with a 2.86 ERA in 14 appearances for the Trojans.
“I just wanted to stay close to my family and friends,” Holley said. “I just thank Hemmings for giving me this opportunity to be able to play the game I love.”
Brinkley will be headed to Douglas and play for a Hawks team that’s been successful since 2011 as they have been conference runners-up five times and appeared in the JUCO World Series three times.
He hopes to bring a championship to SGSC when he joins the team next season as he wrapped up his senior year with a .294 batting average, 15 RBI, and a homerun in 30 games.
“Over the past few years [SGSC] has been playing consistently good,” Brinkley said. “They’ll be looking for a catcher that’s going to lay his life on the line for everything. They’re going to have a guy they can count on day in and day out.”
