Chad Chastain stops by Watermelon capital to talk seatbelt safety
CORDELE, GA – In Cordele, NASCAR driver Chad Chastain visited Crisp County High School Thursday morning to talk about the importance of safe driving, showing why everyone should wear a seatbelt on every trip.
Students also got to watch the rollover simulator and see what happens to unbelted people inside a vehicle during a rollover crash.
“Not wearing your seatbelts are the leading cause of deaths and injuries [in car crashes}” Chastain said. “I think a lot of teens and young adults have this mentality of invincibility.”
A recent survey found that only 25 percent of teens wear a seatbelt and that in 2020, 53 percent of people killed in car crashes in Georgia were not properly secured.
