MCLB to host Barney’s Run for the Warriors
(ALBANY, Ga)- For many veterans, living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is incredibly difficult.
Runners in the Southwest Georgia community are coming together this weekend to raise money for veterans suffering from PTSD.
Through the help of Barney’s Run for the Warriors Saturday, November 16th, as the community will be giving back through running.
“What we do is we want to be able to place service dogs with veterans, post 9/11 who have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,” Says Co-Organizer, Anna Hendley
Over the last seven years, the run for the warriors has run across the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, raising thousands to bring veterans and service dogs together.
As it will help improve the mental health of the veterans.
Hendley tells us, ”It really is hurting for both them and their families. So we want to be able to give some kind of normalcy back to their lives. And it will also help to decrease their medication use…”
WITH almost 200 people signed up for various races Saturday, the run for the warriors is a good time for everyone involved, especially the dogs
“As we say, we’re saving a veteran, and we’re saving a dog. Because 95% of all the dogs we get are from rescue shelters,” says Hendley
Registration will be available at the Marine Corps Logistics Base until 6:45 Saturday morning.
