Local game shops to host “Extra Life” Saturday

(ALBANY, Ga)- Several local businesses are teaming up this weekend to raise money for pediatric health.

Alchemy Games and Coffee Shop in Sylvester, Pixelhead VR, and The Cool Place in Albany are partnering for an event known as Extra Life.

“Extra Life is actually an opportunity for geeks to give back to the community, and show we can do good just by gaming. It’s through the Children’s Miracle Network, it helps the Phoebe NICU Unit over in Albany, and it’s something we’re really proud to be a part of,” says Alchemy Games and Coffee Owner, Timothy Haire.

Throughout the day on Saturday, November 2nd, the three businesses will be raising money for their team named, “Phoebe is for the kids.”

They’ll be hosting various games ranging from tabletop and card games to video games to raise a combined $10,000.

For those participating, they’ll get to meet some of the kids who have been helped by Extra Life in years past.

The Cool Place Owner, Halim Slaton tells us, “We’re gonna have families from Children’s Miracle Network, families that have been affected by it, who have been helped, with either themselves or their kids. They’ll be here talking and interacting with our customers. It’s going to be an all around, energetic, lively, awesome day.”

The community aspect will be on display this weekend as many of the stores are expecting hundreds throughout the day.

“You know, there’s a tight knit community of gamers and they like to help each other in their personal lives. So it really just makes sense to kind of come together, and use that opportunity to come together, play games, and do something that’s meaningful,” says Pixelhead VR owner, Josh Beckstrom.

If you’re interested in showing support in person Saturday, you can visit Alchemy Games at 121 East Front Street in Sylvester, The Cool Place at the Albany Mall, or Pixelhead VR at 2610 Dawson Road.
