Lady Jets get back to winning ways with 86 – 52 victory over Albany Tech

ALBANY, Ga. — The nationally ranked South Georgia Technical College Lady Jets got back to their winning ways Tuesday night when they captured an 86 – 52 victory over the Albany Tech Lady Titans to move to 8 – 2 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) conference and 14 – 3 overall. They travel to Albany Tech today at 5:30 for a rematch.

Sophomore guards Imani McNeal and Veronica Charles led the charge by knocking down 17 points each. Another sophomore guard, Moe Shida, added 11 points to allow those three players to nearly outscore the entire Albany Tech line-up.

The Lady Jets scored first in the match-up and Veronica Charles accounted for eight of the Lady Jets first nine points. The Lady Jets were able to turn that quick start into a 23 – 9 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Jets slowed their scoring down in the second quarter but held Albany Tech to eight points to pull ahead 37 – 17 at the half.

Albany Tech did a much better job of scoring in the second half with 16 points in the third quarter and 19 points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Jets continued to outpace them and took an easy 86 – 52 conference win.

In addition to 17 points on offense, Veronica Charles accounted for six rebounds, three assists and one steal. Imani McNeal pulled down four rebounds, two assists and four steals in addition to her 17 points. Moe Shida contributed 11 points, two rebounds, five assists and one steal for the night.

Other Lady Jets adding points included freshman Maikya Simmons with nine, Abby Solway and Jaidyn Trevino with eight each, Niya McGuire and Hope Butera with five points each, Fore Ngasamputu with four points and Tena Ikid closed out the scoring with two points.

The 10th nationally ranked Lady Jets are in second place behind Georgia Highlands in the GCAA and are scheduled to face Albany Tech in a rematch in Albany on Thursday, March 11th at 5:30 and then host them again at 1 p.m. in the Hangar on Saturday, March 13th. They will host East Georgia State College at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16th.
