High speed chase ends with overturned vehicle

CORDELE, Ga. — A high-speed chase spanned two counties and ended with an overturned vehicle on I-75 Wednesday morning.

According to reports from Georgia State Patrol Post 30, at around 8:10 a.m. deputies with the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a white Nissan Rogue, clocked at 97 miles per hour. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 43-year old Danny Holcomb from Doraville refused to stop and a pursuit ensued.

Crisp 911 was contacted and Crisp County Deputies and GSP Troopers joined in the chase. SGT. Jon Posey of the GSP said he attempted to lay down stop sticks in the vicinity of mile marker 97 but interstate traffic was too heavy at the time. He said the suspect passed that point traveling 85 miles per hour and SGT. Posey joined the pursuit. At mile marker 93 SGT. Posey initiated a PIT Maneuver and the vehicle went off the west shoulder and overturned in a ditch.

Holcomb was transported by EMS to Crisp Regional Hospital. He sustained minor injuries. Reports indicate that he had been involved in a vehicle accident some time on Tuesday and had been released from another hospital. He was still wearing a hospital gown, and rented the Rogue to travel back to Doraville when the chase occurred.

He is charged with speeding and attempting to elude officers. More charges are forthcoming from both Dooly and Crisp Counties.
