Georgia Forestry Commission Issues Burn Ban

ALBANY, Ga. – On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, the Georgia Forestry Commission issued a mandatory burn ban in most South Georgia counties to include Dougherty County. This burn ban is effective immediately and will remain in place for at least 30 days.

This is the first mandatory burn ban in Georgia Forestry Commission history. What Does This Mean for Residents:

• Be extremely cautious with anything that could create a spark.

• NO prescribed burns, burning yard debris, or agricultural burning.

• Residents should follow all local guidance and restrictions.
