Fitzgerald falls to Thompson in 2A state championship

ATLANTA – The 2A state championship between Fitzgerald and Thomson saw two teams entering with a 14 game win streak, but it was the Bulldogs taking down the Purple Hurricanes 32-27 to win their first state title since 2002.

Bulldogs running back, Jontavis Curry, rushed for three touchdowns and over 150 yards in the win, including the game-sealing 82-yard touchdown with less than two minutes in the fourth quarter.

The Purple Hurricanes were down for most of the game until they took a 21-20 lead late in the second half before another Thomson touchdown put the game out of reach for Fitzgerald.

It’s the second time in school history the Purple Hurricanes were unable to finish the season undefeated.
