Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office holds annual “Shop with the Sheriff”

(ALBANY, GA)- Nearly two dozen underprivileged children got an early Christmas present Thursday, thanks to the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office.

For the past 19 years, the sheriff’s office has been taking part in Shop with the Sheriff. It’s something that Sheriff Kevin Sproul says it’s one of his favorite days of the year.

“These are kids who are less fortunate, they don’t have what you and I may have. And we want to share our love from the Sheriff’s Office to them and let them know that adults in our community do care about them,” says Sheriff Sproul.

In addition to taking the kids out for lunch, deputies helped the kids by taking them on a $110 shopping spree.

For some of the kids, they aren’t just buying presents for themselves.

Sproul says, “They’ll think of their brother, their sister, their mom, or granddad or uncle or aunt. They want to buy something for them, and we tell them ‘you can buy for anybody, but this time is for you, and they’re so unselfish at times.”

The kids who got to be a part of this year’s event loved every minute of their holiday shopping.

Dazyriah Byrd is one of the kids who got to shop, and she tells us ”I had so much fun shopping with the sheriff, and making some new friends.

“It was so fun. I got to buy some toys and some clothes,” says another child.

The sheriff’s office raised over $4,000 to fund this year’s Shop with the Sheriff.
