Crisp mourns passing of Howard Rainey
Longtime Georgia state representative of Crisp, Dooly Counties passes away at 93
CORDELE, GA – Crisp and Dooly County mourns the passing of longtime former Georgia State Representative and civic leader Howard Rainey, who died Tuesday evening at 93 years old.
A funeral service is set for 4pm Thursday in Rainey’s hometown of Cordele.
Rainey served in Georgia’s Gold Dome for 28 years after being first elected in 1961, working under six governors on behalf of his constituents and community.
Current Georgia State Representative Noel Williams Jr says he only hopes to serve Crisp Countians as well as Howard Rainey had, noting his years of service beyond local politics.
Former State Representative Johnny Floyd, who succeeded Rainey’s post in 1989, says his predecessor was instrumental in bringing golf to Veterans State Park by Lake Blackshear.
Rainey is survived by his wife of 71 years Mildred, two children and grandchildren.
