Community enjoys Pickers in the Park
CORDELE, Ga. — There was something for everyone at the 6th Annual Pickers in the Park. The event, sponsored each year by the Crisp County Lions Club was held on the grounds of the Cordele Community Clubhouse.
The event drew a large crowd with vendors selling a wide variety of items such as arts and crafts and food. There were also numerous citizens who came out to bring their yard sale items and antiques.
Gary Cross is president of the Crisp County Lions Club
“We have over 50 vendors in here,” he said “And have a selection of stuff. Anything from yard sale to arts and crafts and iron work. We even have where you can adopt a pet today, this year.”
Pickers could also take a break from their shopping to sit in the shade and enjoy the entertainment on the stage throughout the day and children beat the heat by enjoying a cool trip down the waterslide.
Cross said the event is a fundraiser for the club and the money raised goes right back into the community.
“Every year we do this to raise money for our club,” he said. “This is our main fundraiser for the year. Also, we take the money we raise here to do our special projects throughout the community, helping a lot of kids sometimes and families in need. There is a need for the money that we raise here in our county and that’s what we do, put it back in our community to help them out.”
