ALBANY, Ga. – The Mayor and Commissioners adopted the Albany Transit Safety Plan. Transit systems that receive Federal financial assistance are required to develop and implement a Public Transportation Safety Plans as authorized by the “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century” and the “Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act.”
“It’s bringing awareness to safety to make sure that we’re being transparent and responsive; safety is a priority for transit,” says Albany Transportation Director David Hamilton.
The plan was developed by the Georgia Department of Transportation and Albany Transit and based on the Safety Management System approach. The development and implementation of safety plans will help ensure that public transportation systems are safe nationwide. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will publish a final rule for Public Transportation Agency Safety Plans. The effective date of this rule is July 19, 2020.
