Albany veteran receives new roof thanks to Purple Heart Homes

(ALBANY, Ga)- An Albany veteran got his home repaired, thanks to some community help.

A crew was at the home of Doug Ellis Tuesday morning, as part of Purple Heart Homes.

Ellis served two tours in Iraq before returning to Ft. Bragg. He was medically discharged in 2013 due to sustained injuries.

The project is meant to help veterans by fitting their homes with ideal conditions.

Local contractor, Curtis Stanfield and his roofing company, S&S Roofing and Construction, were chosen to give Ellis’ roof a facelift.

Stanfield tells us, “It’s definitely a big honor that we’re recognized as a platinum contractor, and we’re able to provide this service to our veterans as needed. The Ellis family is very much deserving and we”re glad to be able to perform this task for them.”

Stanfield and his company were chosen as Platinum Contractors, for the Owens and Corning National Roofing Project in 2016, a group effort to repair veterans’ roofs in conjunction with purple heart homes.

He knows what it means to help out those who served the country.

“It shows the community that we do give back, and in a big way. Whenever you donate, it’s always great, but to a veteran, it’s something special,” says Stanfield.

Since partnering in 2016, platinum contractors have restored the roofs of more than 120 homes across the country.
