Albany State students react to team sending offer to Marcus Stokes
Stokes was recently criticized for saying N-word on video
ALBANY, GA – Marcus Stokes, a four-star quarterback from Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, FL, recently received an offer to play at Albany State after his offer was withdrawn from UF for a video that surfaced of him saying the N-word back in November.
Stokes has since issued an apology, and on Tuesday, was offered to play for the HBCU despite the controversy.
Students at ASU spoke on the video, questioning why the team would want to send him an offer to an HBCU after already seeing the video.
But one Golden Ram running back came to the defense of his potential teammate.
“He didn’t say it to anyone … he was just rapping some lyrics,” Zion Hill said. “What [the team] agreed on was that everyone makes mistakes … and we will accept him to our team, but he has to check himself so it won’t happen again.”
