Albany local is one of 12 finalists for Atlanta Braves P.A. announcer role
Bobby Powell looking to become the next public address announcer for the Atlanta Braves
ALBANY – Some of the most well-known public address announcers have made their names known with their unique voices and how they introduce players.
From guys like the late, great Bob Sheppard introducing Yankees legend Derek Jeter, to guys like Detroit Pistons’ legend John Mason with his iconic “Detroit basketballllll” phrase.
And for Albany local, Bobby Powell, he’s looking to cement his name among the greats as he will now have a chance to become the next Atlanta Braves’ public address announcer, as he was named one of 12 finalists for the role.
Throughout his life, the Deerfield-Windsor alum has worked in radio and television all over Georgia. After retiring, he became a tour guide for the Braves.
After long-time announcer Casey Motter died last year, the position became available, and out of 250 applicants, the Braves are down to the last 12 with Powell as one of them.
They’ll narrow it down to three this weekend before announcing the winner next weekend.
