Swift progress being made in the build up for transportation center
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in October of 2021, and construction began mid-September
ALBANY, Ga. – We have an update on how construction is going at Albany’s “soon to be” transportation center. Transportation Director David Hamilton tells South Georgia Television News they’re on track for completion by November, as they are hoping to move in by the new year.
The new facility’s amenities will include Wi-Fi, a community room, computer lab for passengers, charging stations, and potentially electric vehicle charging stations.
While the transit system already have openings for drivers, the new facility will bring new job opportunities.
“Well when we open up the new facility, we will be looking to add staff to provide security during hours of operation and also some custodial staff. We’ve been talking with the city manager about that, so those things will be hopefully added into the upcoming budget.” said Hamilton.
Hamilton adds that completion is set for the end of October, and once inspections are completed operations will begin in January of 2023.
