Crisp County Sheriff’s Department using social media to attract new recruits

CORDELE, GA. – The Crisp County Sheriff’s Department is able to stay afloat while other law enforcement agencies across the country drown under the pressure of filling vacant positions.
Sheriff Billy Hancock credits the department’s ability to attract applicants to having a strong presence on social media. He says, “Were a very transparent organization we do our social media posts when things are going on, good or bad, we had incidents happen where we didn’t perform up to where our standards are and we took blame for it.”
Although the department is seeing more applicants than some other law enforcement agencies, filling their 8 open positions with someone who meets their standards is where the problem lies.
Sheriff Hancock says, “I just don’t think we can afford to hire people who don’t have their heart in it.”
With benefits like a 30 year county paid retirement plan, education salary incentives and a take home vehicle, Sheriff Hancock remains positive that its enough bait to make a great catch.
