Missing child found deceased after multi-agency search effort in Albany

ALBANY, Ga. – Authorities have confirmed the death of a child reported missing Friday in southwest Albany.

According to the Albany Police Department, officers responded March 20 to the 2600 block of Whispering Pines Road after a report of a missing child. A large-scale search effort was launched with assistance from multiple agencies and community members, including the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office and the Albany Fire Department, as well as other local and state partners.

Authorities say the search continued overnight, and around 4:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, the child was located in a pond in the 700 block of Meadowlark Drive. The child was pronounced deceased, and the body was turned over to the coroner’s office for an autopsy.

Officials expressed condolences to the family and thanked all who assisted in the search efforts, including neighborhood volunteers and multiple responding agencies.

The investigation remains ongoing.
