Annual Empty Bowls event returns to Albany March 18

ALBANY, Ga. – A popular community fundraiser returning to Albany this week is combining art, food, and service to help fight hunger across Southwest Georgia.

The annual Empty Bowls event will take place Wednesday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Event Center at Northwest Library on Dawson Road.

The fundraiser is hosted by Sowega Council on Aging in partnership with the Albany Area Arts Council. The event raises awareness about senior hunger while supporting programs that provide meals and other services to older adults throughout the region.

During the luncheon, local restaurants and caterers donate soups and other dishes for attendees to enjoy. Each ticket holder also receives a handcrafted pottery bowl created by regional artisans. Organizers say the bowls serve as a powerful symbol of the empty bowls faced by people in the community who struggle with hunger.

Proceeds from the event help support the Council on Aging’s Home Delivered Meals program for seniors, as well as programs hosted by the Albany Area Arts Council. Since launching in 2012, Empty Bowls of Albany has grown into a highly anticipated annual fundraiser and routinely sells out each year.

Tickets for this year’s event were sold online and organizers say attendance capacity is typically reached ahead of time due to strong community support. For more information about future events and programs, visit this link.
