Equinox event to offer unique look inside Thomasville’s Lapham-Patterson House

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – History and architecture enthusiasts have a unique opportunity Friday, March 20, as the Thomasville History Center hosts Perfect Alignment: An Equinox Evening with Lapham at the historic Lapham-Patterson House. The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is timed with the spring equinox, when sunlight perfectly aligns with key architectural features of the home — an effect designed by original owner Charles Lapham and visible for only two days each year.

Guests will begin the evening with a cocktail hour featuring hors d’oeuvres, regional wines, and a signature equinox-inspired sangria. Live piano music performed from period sheet music will set the tone, while attendees can explore the house and enjoy docent-guided equinox light viewings. The immersive experience also includes an educational discussion on how Lapham’s Spiritualist beliefs influenced the design, symbolism, and orientation of the home.

Following the cocktail hour, guests will enjoy a seated dinner with a special equinox menu, complemented by live music. The evening concludes with period phonograph recordings as visitors take a final stroll through the house, providing a full sensory experience of this historic property.

This house was designed with intention — not just structurally, but symbolically,” said Austin Bell, Executive Director of the Thomasville History Center. “The equinox gives us a rare opportunity to see the Lapham-Patterson House exactly as Charles Lapham meant it to be experienced. Perfect Alignment allows us to connect architecture, belief, and the natural world in a way that feels both historic and immediate, while directly supporting the preservation of this extraordinary home.”

Seating is intentionally limited to maintain an intimate experience, and advance tickets are required. Tickets must be purchased by Friday, March 13. For more information or to reserve your spot, visit this link or call 229-226-7664.
