Fresh Roots Rising to host Open Farm Day at 5th Avenue Community Garden in Albany March 7
ALBANY, Ga. — Families are invited to slow down, learn, and grow together this Saturday, March 7, at the 5th Avenue Community Garden, 211 5th Avenue, during the Fresh Roots Rising Open Farm Day.
The hands-on event runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with the garden center staying open until 1 p.m. Visitors can explore raised-bed planting, build herb jars, and create kid-friendly planting cups to take home. Sowega Master Gardeners will be on hand to share simple gardening tips, and partners from The Widget Development & Trading Company will provide advice on turning gardening into a potential income source.
Special Storytime Sessions for children will feature Uncle John’s City Garden, the Georgia Farm Bureau Book of the Month. Storytimes will be held at 11:00 a.m., 11:20 a.m., and 11:40 a.m.
This year, attendees can also visit the Community Blessing Bed, where youth involved in Fresh Roots Rising grow food to help local neighbors. Participants can learn about adopting a garden bed and growing alongside youth throughout the season.
A Pop-Up Garden Center will offer beginner-friendly seeds and gardening resources for anyone ready to start planting at home.
The event encourages attendees to bring hats, chairs, children, and friends to enjoy a morning of gardening, learning, and community connection.
