Wilcox County’s girls basketball celebrate championship win with parade

ROCHELLE, GA – Saturday, Wilcox County’s Lady Patriots basketball team celebrated their 1-A state championship victory with the Rochelle community as they hosted a parade for the public.

“We are so happy to be at this point,” Lady Patriots head basketball coach Santita Coon said. “We’re happy for this continued support from our community, even the surrounding counties.”

The support was unwavering as the Lady Patriots were the only team left in the 229 competing for a state championship in early March. After losing to Lee County High School, the girls went on a 27-game winning streak to secure their first championship in school history, and the girls were happy to have won it for their head coach.

“She’s had a great impact in my life,” Lady Patriots point guard Shamauri Martin said. “Throughout my freshman and sophomore year, she’s pushed me to become more of a leader on the court and off the court.”
