Young reacts to Nigel Brown’s fatal shooting

Ward 6 commissioner pleads with community to come forward with information
Commissioner Brown

ALBANY, GA – Albany’s Ward 6 Commissioner Demetrius Young issued the following statement Monday afternoon; hours after the fatal shooting of 9 year old Nigel Brown.

Commissioner Young’s Statement on The Shooting Death of Nigel Brown

Last night, there was a drive-by shooting on W Gordon, where Nigel Brown a 9-year-old boy was shot and killed in his sleep. I spoke to Chief Persley this morning, and we are working on finding out who was involved in the shooting as quickly as we can. If you know anything about the situation please report to CrimeStoppers anonymously at 229-436-TIPS or APD at 229-431-2100.
Sadly, this is not the first shooting in our community that has taken a young person’s life far too soon.  Each and every time, it hurts. My prayers are with the family and everyone who knew and loved Nigel. Our community has been through too much gun violence.  If we don’t take action and make real reforms to stabilize our neighborhoods and make our community safer for our children, our elders, and everyone… things will not change.
I am calling for a renewed focus on the issues that contribute to gun violence and create an environment that leads to youth violence.
Please keep Nigel, his family, and our city in your prayers, and reach out if you have any information. We will keep you updated on other actions you can take.
