Atlanta Dream fall to New York Liberty
COLLEGE PARK, GA – The Atlanta Dream (4-4) fell to the New York Liberty (9-2) 78-61 on Thursday night.
The first quarter was competitive from both sides.
Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard, Allisha Gray and Cheyanne Parker-Tyus would account for all the points for the Dream, but still trailed the liberty by three to end the quarter.
Neither team would be able to get the edge as it was still bucket for bucket by the second, with the Dream tying it up at 30 at one point, but the Liberty would sneak away late in the quarter to take a 38-32 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Atlanta went on a 10-2 run in the 3rd but Breanna Stewart – who already had a double double by this point – would help New York maintain the lead, going up by seven to close out the quarter.
The final quarter is when the Liberty would pick up their effort. They would outscore the Dream 23-13 as New York come away with the victory, winning five straight games.
“We didn’t make shots,” Dream head coach Tanisha Wright said. “As a result, it carried over. Doesn’t matter anything you do in life, the energy that you bring, it dissipates.”
