Plunkett lift station reports spill

On March 17 at 1300 a spill was discovered at the Plunkett lift station. The spill occurred when one pump broke down and the second pump clogged. Repairs were made to the station and it was put back in service at 1800 but began spilling again on March 18, 2021. This resulted in the loss of >10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division Water Quality Division was notified. Signage has been posted and stream monitoring has been initiated in accordance with Environmental Regulations.

The local health department, media and legal organ are being notified as required. There are no downstream water suppliers within twenty (20) miles of the spill site.

RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT BE ALARMED. SAMPLES WILL BE COLLECTED TO ENSURE THAT THERE ARE NO HARMFUL EFFECTS. ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS VIOLATION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO THE CONTACT PERSON LISTED ABOVE.
