Unadilla alerts of waste water spill
Repairs to Plunkitt lift station revisited after more seepage detected

UNADILLA, GA – City officials in Unadilla say they have alerted Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources Environmental Protection Division of Water Quality of an inadvertent spill of untreated waste water earlier this week.
Sabrina Sinyard of Unadilla’s City Administration says employees first noticed an issue early Wednesday afternoon to the Plunkitt lift station and began making necessary repairs.
One pump to the station was inoperable, a secondary pump was found clogged with debris.
Repairs were completed and the station out back into service late Wednesday, but the spillage returned the following day and an estimated 10,000 gallons of untreated waste water seeped from the facility.
Unadilla officials say there is no danger to the community as there are no downstream water suppliers within 20 miles of the spill site.
Sinyard adds that appropriate signage has been posted and stream monitoring has begun per environmental regulations.
