Sumter deputies arrest former area coach on child exploitation charges

46 year old William Blue faces dozens of child exploitation charges

AMERICUS, GA  — Sumter County Sheriff Eric Bryant revealed Tuesday that former Americus area coach William P. Blue has been arrested on 67 charges related to child sexual exploitation.

Sheriff Bryant says the charges against Blue were lodged after a lengthy investigation of his department.

The 46 year old accused, who formerly coached at Americus Sumter County High, turned himself into the department Monday.

In all, Blue faces 23 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and an additional 44 counts of furnishing obscene materials to a minor.

Blue is being held in the Sumter County Jail as he awaits a bond hearing.
