20 year veteran Justin Bedwell dies after emergency surgery in Tallahassee

ALBANY, GA – A Decatur County deputy has died from injuries received in the line of duty.

Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin confirms the passing of 20 year department veteran Lieutenant Justin Bedwell Monday in a Tallahassee, Florida hospital.

Bedwell was shot Saturday night trying to arrest two suspects who fled from a traffic stop and fired upon officers in a chase that began in neighboring Seminole County, Georgia.

Bedwell underwent emergency surgery Sunday, but died of post-operative complications.

Both suspects were ultimately caught and will face additional charges in light of Bedwell’s death.
