Tift County girls basketball wraps up annual youth camp
The camp took place June 20th-22nd.
TIFTON, GA- Another, day another camp. This week, over 30 kids attended Tift County girls’ basketball annual youth camp.
“We just love to give back to the community and to have a little fundamental camp for the kids. So, it goes for just a few days, and we work on dribbling, passing, playing defense, shooting and just the basics of basketball, rebounding. It’s great because our players are out there working with each of the kids and helping them to develop their games. They referee their games and watch them when they’re playing three-on-three, so its beneficial for everyone,” said Tift girls basketball head coach, Julie Conner.
Coach Conner says this camp is a full circle moment for her varsity athletes and is beneficial for both campers and players.
“I invited the kids to come to basketball games during the season. They will come and sit behind the bench and feel that part of the community, that part of Blue Devil nation. And then it’s great for our players because one, sometimes the campers don’t listen to them and they’re like “Coach Conner, they’re not listening! and I’m like “Really? How about that!” But they get to see a realistic view and when they are teaching the fundamentals, they learn them so much better” Conner said.
Conner said if you missed this camp, former Blue Devil and Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, Tadric Jackson will be hosting his annual youth camp next month.
This 2-day elite camp will take place July 17th and 18th at Tift County High School’s gym from 1 P.M. to 7 P.M.
For $150, each camper will learn from Tift County Athletics Hall of Famer, Tadric Jackson, who played a huge part in Tift’s 2014 State Championship title win and later signed a Division I scholarship with Georgia Tech. Campers will also receive free T-shirts, food, prizes and more.
