Atlanta Dream fall to Indiana Fever in home opener
ATLANTA – The Dream took on the Indiana Fever for the first time this season, with Atlanta entering on a five-game win streak against the Fever dating back to last season.
But in Sunday’s game, Atlanta started off struggling as they’d shoot 8-for-20, but still led 25-20 at the end of the first quarter.
The Fever made a comeback in the second quarter, however, outscoring Atlanta 12-8 to tie it up with over four minutes remaining. But Atlanta would go on a run of their own, outscoring Indiana 15-9 and took a 47-41 lead at the half.
The second half was a lot closer though as the Fever eventually took the lead, going up 57-56 with three minutes to go before the Dream retook the lead and went up by two at the end of the third.
Indiana regained the lead with 13 seconds remaining, and it was up to Rhyne Howard to send it to overtime but her three-pointer came up short, giving the Fever a 90-87 win.
Howard finished with 23 points, Cheyenne Parker with 21, and Allisha Gray with 19.
Atlanta (1-2) will face the Chicago Sky on Tuesday at the Gateway Center.
