Georgia State Defense Force recruiting
CORDELE, Ga. — Col. Ken Kirk, 3rd Brigade Commander of the Georgia State Defense Force talked with Rick Smarr on today’s noon show on WSST.
The group is an auxiliary unit of the Georgia Department of Defense, under the direction of the Governor and the Adjutant General of Georgia. The GSDF provides an organized, trained, disciplined rapid response volunteer force. They offer assistance to state and local government agencies and civil relief organizations in times of emergency.
According to Col. Kirk the GSDF is a volunteer organization and no prior military experience is required. Also there are different levels of service and the physics requirements for signing up are less stringent than the military.
The 3rd Brigade is new to the GSDF and Col Kirk says he is currently recruiting in the area. They will be at the Cordele National Guard Armory Saturday and Sunday, March 30 & 31 beginning at 8 a.m. (0800 if you are on military time). Anyone interested is welcome to come out during the day to see what the Georgia State Defense Force is all about and speak with recruiters.
