Plans for the East Oglethorpe Bridge

(ALBANY, Ga)- One of the City of Albany’s most used roadways may be seeing a facelift in the future.

The city is working with the Georgia Department of Transportation about a replacement of the East Oglethorpe Bridge in Downtown Albany.

Originally built in 1953, the East Oglethorpe Bridge does not meet design standards in 2019.

In a news release sent out by the Department of Transportation, plans for the new bridge include four 12-foot lanes, a sidewalk on the North side of the bridge and a shared use path on the South side.

At this time, construction will not start on the bridge until 2022, and would take 24 months to complete.
