Financial crime averted

CORDELE, Ga. — Officers with the Cordele Police made an arrest Saturday after an investigation into forgery led to theft charges. James Johnson, age 55 of  Florida, has been charged with Forgery in the 3rd Degree and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. Investigation by Corporal Michael Middleton and Detective Carrie Lull revealed Johnson took possession of a business check not belonging to him, allegedly altered the check and then attempted to cash it for several thousand dollars. 

Chief Green states, “I’m proud of the investigative work by my officers. Due to their diligent effort, and information from witnesses, the suspect was caught shortly after committing the crime and the victim was spared a lot of stress and inconvenience.”
