Tallahassee AIDS Walk

Big Bend Cares’ spring event, the Tallahassee AIDS Walk, draws hundreds of participants each year. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Railroad Square. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this historic event, Tallahassee AIDS Walk will be getting a GLOW-UP. For this glow-in-the-dark themed event, participants are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark body paint, neon clothing, and lots of glow sticks- the more creative the better!

Individual community members, school and university groups, companies, and faith groups can register to walk as individuals or as part of a team. Walkers are encouraged to also become fundraisers and help us reach our goal. After a memorial walk around Railroad Square, we will gather at the Railroad Square Craft House to listen to speakers and music.

This event will be a celebration of all of those who have fought so hard to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS. All proceeds help Big Bend Cares in providing direct-care services for our clients and HIV prevention and education for the entire Big Bend region.
Why We Walk

Did you know that in the Big Bend area, 1 out of every 172 adults is living with HIV/AIDS? In the African American community, it’s 1 out of every 72 adults. And, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, more than 1.1 million people in the US are living with HIV – with 1 in 7 of them not even aware that they have the disease!

Yes, the epidemic is far from over.

This is why clients, community members, staff and advocates of Big Bend Cares, Neighborhood Medical Center, and Bond Community Health Center are walking together on Thursday, March 5th. We walk for the more than 100,000 people living with HIV in Florida. We walk to remember those who no longer can. We walk to remind you that you’re not alone. We walk for a nation. We walk to educate. We walk for change.

The Tallahassee AIDS Walk works to raise awareness and funds to support HIV programs in the community. All proceeds will benefit our 3 local HIV/AIDS service organizations. We honor and remember friends and family, celebrate those who are living full lives with the virus, and recognize the work that still needs to be done.

Please walk with us!
